The work table or desk is or utmost importance to a businessman, a student, a manager, or just anybody who has to do some thinking, writing or decision-making. In Feng Shui there are many helpful tips to consider in positioning the table and what to put on it to achieve success and invite auspiciousness.
Here are some dos and don’ts, remedies, and enhancements.
- Do not sit where your back is towards the door when working or studying. The energy that comes through the door will affect your concentration. You may not be sure that people who come in or go out have positive or good vibes. They might sneak up on you, peek over your shoulder and “steal” your secrets or ideas. Besides, you will not have a chance to relax.
- If there are two doors in your office or room, position your desk or table where you can see both doors so you can have a good “command” of the entire room and know immediately who comes in.
- A wall behind you provides you a sense of security and comfort. It also gives “strength”.
- If you cannot position your table facing the door and have to put it facing the wall instead, place a mirror on your desk where it can reflect the door so you can see who goes in.
- You can sit with your back to a window if that window does not face west. If this can’t be avoided, place a curtain or blind or shade on the window. Otherwise, put a mirror on your desk whose reflection faces outward.
- Organize your table, avoid clutters. Keep it clean. The front of your table is the “acceptance” and fame enrichment. Place your computer keyboard, calling card, note pad here.
- To your left is the “health” sector. The “out” box or tray should be here you can “relax” as you place the finished papers here.
- The right side is the “auspicious” or “money” enrichment area. Place your in box or tray here and keep it full to give the idea that transactions or deals are plenty.
- Immediately opposite you at the back of the desk is the relationship enrichment, where the telephone, intercom, cell phone should be.
- Immediately to the right is the family enrichment. You can place pictures of your family here to inspire you that these are people you are dedicating your efforts and success.
- To the left is your friends enrichment, an area where the phonebook, calling cards from other people; computer’s processor and other files.
- Towards the left edge of your desk is the pleasure enrichment where coffee, juice, cakes or sandwiches are to be placed during breaks.
- All these tips can be applied when you have a different workplace such as a counter or information desk, reception area.
- Avoid arranging furniture in straight lines or along walls.
- Ideally, a work desk must face the south or southwest to attract fame or popularity and acceptance and good fortune.
- Consider the size of your working table. If it is too large, you will “drown” yourself with work while if it is too small, you will feel restricted or limited.
- Work tables with rounded or soft corners are better than “sharp-cornered” ones so as not to “harm” the people in the office, whether guests or employees.
- Place a “Ruyi” or authority staff to give you the energy of good management.
- Crystal globes in different colors and sizes will help students get clear and excellent minds in concentrating on their studies.
- A painting or picture of mountains, trees or meandering river or waterfalls at the wall behind you will give you a feeling of strength and self confidence and security as well.
- Through your birth year’s last two digits, you can find the direction you should face to have your personal growth aspirations be energized. Reduce these two digits into one single number by adding. Ex. 1969, 6+9=15; 1+5=6. If you are a male, subtract the resulting number from 10; if you are a female, add the resulting number to 5. If the result produces two digits, add till you get a single digit. This digit will be your “Kua” number and it will determine the best direction for you to face while working. Hence, you can position table where your “Kua” number tells you. If you cannot position the desk or table to the right direction perhaps due to space limitations, you take ten minutes facing your assigned direction and meditate or say your wish or aspiration or prayer silently before you start work.
- If your “Kua” number is 1 best direction is southeast; 2- northeast; 3- south; 4- north; 5- if male, west; female-southwest; 6- east; 7- northwest; 8- southwest; 9- east.
- Do not sit directly under an exposed beam; under a stair landing; beside an open shelf; facing or beside a “poison arrow” a corner of another table or the protruded corner of a room. These have harmful effects on your health and way of thinking.
- Avoid having a study or work table in your bedroom or kitchen.
- Use a high-backed chair with arms to give you a sense of security and comfort.
- A swivel chair that slightly reclines will give you convenience in free and smooth movement.
